MAC Art Supplies Review and Swatches: Spring 2010

Ladies, it's fourth dimension to spring into action and show winter the door (then long, farewell, auf wiedersehen goodbye!). Next up, spring and summertime. 🙂

I've already started planning some trips to take advantage of the season. Nothing large — possibly a solar day trip around the Bay Area and a weekend jaunt up to Lake Tahoe — and one thing I pride myself on when information technology comes to road trips is beingness the girl you lot can count on to bring the snacks, the upbeat music, the GPS (did I mention I take no sense of management?) and the makeup. If we were road tripping together, near def' I'd bring along something from the new MAC Art Supplies collection, equally it's one of the most road trip-friendly MAC releases I've seen in a long time.

For reference, I'one thousand an NC 35. From left: Greasepaint Sticks in Greengrease, Zinc Zone, Slick Black, Dingy

Arriving April 1, the 24-piece bonanza bursts with great-looking on-the-go goodies in pencil and pen form. MAC had cocky-portraiture in mind when they envisioned the collection, a theme I can really get behind. Aren't our faces, subsequently all, the canvases upon which we express our ain makeup fine art? Duuuude, that's kinda poetic, methinks. 🙂

Blackface Sticks in Brownish Now, Below Ground, Uniformly Blue

The fact that each item in the drove fits in a pocket is similar icing on a cake. The Blackface Sticks ($17.50), Pearlglide Intense Eyeliners ($14.fifty) and Pro Longwear Lipstain Markers ($xvi) make it uber-easy to get set in a rush.

Greasepaint Sticks

If you lot went ga-ga over the Blackface Sticks from the DSquared and Manner Black collections (I know I did!), and then you're in luck. MAC brought 'em back for a second circular in eight new, limited-edition colors. LOVE how flexible these creamy pencils are. You can wear them equally eyeshadows, liners or eyeshadow base. Imagine all the smokey eye looks waiting to interruption free from those adorable chubby pencils…

The colors are unexpectedly dark and edgy and don't exactly sing spring, merely hey it'south MAC, right? Breaking rules is what they do all-time. 🙂

How practise these new Greasepaint Sticks compare to previous ones? As far as I can tell, in terms of texture and article of clothing time, they behave exactly similar the OG ones from DSquared and Style Black. While all are new colors, some of them look quite a scrap similar previous shades…

  • Slick Black: Similar a not-shimmery, true black version of Style Black Blackface (remember how it had just a touch on of purple shimmer?)
  • Uniformly Bluish: I thought of B Greasepaint from DSquared when I first saw it; a niggling different, though, because it's blacker and less blue.
  • Charred Mauve: Brings back memories of V Greasepaint from DSquared, except darker, with more black than regal

Pro Longwear Lipstain Markers

I'm too amused pinkish over the Pro Longwear Lipstain Markers — literally. Their felt-tipped pens deposit a thin layer of pigmented liquid long-wearing stain that lasts for hours, and when I applied Stylesetter (a hot pink), the marker tip tickled my lips. I'one thousand guessing it won't happen to well-nigh people, though, because I'm pretty darn ticklish.

Something else I really like about these is how evenly the color adheres to my lips. You know how some stains darken certain parts of your pucker more than others? These don't. They deliver an even, buildable coat of color (with a light vanilla sense of taste and aroma) that you tin can ramp up with more layers.

Pearlglide Intense Middle Liners

As for the Pearlglide Intense Heart Liners, Designer Imperial (the shimmery violet with lite purple glitter) and Petrol Blue (the shimmery bluish blackness with argent glitter) remind me a lot of past Pearlglide liners. Their silky smooth texture dries rapidly, and once it sets, it stays gear up! Gals who live in hot or boiling places might like having these effectually.

The unabridged Art Supplies Drove includes…

  • Greasepaint Sticks in Greengrease (a shimmery blackened forest green), Zinc Zone (a shimmery grayish blackness), Slick Black (a creamy truthful black), Muddy (a shimmery blackish taupe), Brown At present (a shimmery blackish burgundy), Uniformly Blue (a shimmery blackish dark blue) and Charred Mauve (a shimmery blackish violet), $17.50 each
  • Pro Longwear Lipstain Markers in Full of Flare (a brilliant yellow coral), Stylesetter (a hot pink), A Archetype (a rosy ruby), Purposefully Red (a dirty reddish coral), Modern Mocha (a light dark-brown), Point of View (a light neutral), Tomorrow's Coral (a mid-tone bluish blood-red), Runway Ripened (a reddish plum berry) and Sunset (a coral brown), $16 each
  • Pearlglide Intense Eyeliner in Nigh Noir (a dirty plum), Designer Imperial (an iridescent violet), Petrol Blue (a deep navy), Undercurrent (a bluish teal), Industrial (a periwinkle grey) and Black Line (a truthful black), $14.fifty each.
  • Clear Lipglass, a clear gloss, $fourteen

All in all, Art Supplies feels to me similar a fun, admitting unusual spring collection. If you're the kind of girl who likes portable makeup with a bit of an edge, you might want to bank check it out.

Your friendly neighborhood dazzler aficionado,

Karen
